My Morning Routine

Mornings are like Marmite, you either love them or hate them. But I think there is balance to be had between the two. It’s easy to stress about getting up in the morning and we often dread that alarm clock going off as it comes all too soon. Why not press snooze? To achieve a healthy balance in your morning routine we need to listen to our bodies and balance out our workflow. I personally can’t workout in the morning, due to working late on production until 11pm every day. To get the most out of my workouts I need to be rested and well fed – there are only so many hours in the day so my mornings balance out the harder work I put in after midday. Often spent snoozing my alarms, eating breakfast, cleaning my inbox or doing housework. It’s the time of day that I can enjoy being by myself and slowly work through life admin. I used to stress that I saw others getting up at 5am and working out before their 9-5 – but in theory we both work similar hours, but their downtime is the evenings and I balance mine out in the mornings.

Before I do anything in the morning, I brew a freshly ground coffee. Then, I eat scrambled eggs, avocado, spinach and smoked salmon on seeded toast, with a bowl of yoghurt, banana, peanut butter and honey. This might seem like a lot, but I have this around 11am and won’t eat another full meal until after my workout at 5pm, because I snack on Yushoi during the day to keep me going. I need to make sure I am fuelling my body properly with a well-balanced diet to ensure I have energy, can concentrate and get the most out of my workouts and working day – not to mention keeping a healthy body. Too many people skip breakfast or eat too little. I am a firm believer that breakfast is the most important meal of the day – it sets you up for the day and should be the one meal you shouldn’t be precious about calories over, after all – you have the whole day ahead!

My leisurely mornings are spent sat in bed, replying to comments and direct messages on Instagram while enjoying my first cup of coffee I have my bed facing the window so I can see out of the London skyline while I listen to Magic FM and take in the morning. I need to balance out the hard work I put in from midday till 11pm with something!

If you are wanting to achieve better balance in your morning routine to set yourself up, why not try my top 5 tips:

Plan Your Day. Grab a pen and paper or use your favourite ‘notes’ application to give yourself a mini schedule for the day ahead. It’ll help you to achieve all you need to.

  1. Chop Big Projects Down. Big projects feel daunting and it’s easy to procrastinate when you see a mountain of work ahead of you. So break it down and set yourself realistic targets and goals – keep an eye on the bigger picture.
  2. Give Yourself Snooze Time. Set your alarm half an hour before you need to wake up. Some people disagree that it’s a good idea but having half an hour snooze makes me feel like I have had a lie in even though I’m up no later than needed.
  3. Eat A Proper Breakfast. Breakfast is the time you can get away with eating well, without feeling guilty. Think of putting fuel into a car – the more you put in the more you’ll get out. Set yourself up properly for the day and you’ll have a more productive day. It’s simple and shouldn’t be neglected.
  4. Drink A Glass Of Lemon Water. It wakes you up faster, freshens your breath, gives you a boost of vitamins and aids digestion.

Enjoy the process of finding your own balanced morning routine.
